Haremoor Wood

Walk into Haremoor Wood and you'll find yourself in proper Oxfordshire countryside - the kind of place that feels genuinely remote despite being minutes from Faringdon. It's a working woodland rather than a manicured nature reserve, which means fallen logs, muddy patches, and the occasional surprise of stumbling onto a clearing you weren't expecting.

The paths wind through mixed woodland with enough variation to keep things interesting over an hour or two. You get decent canopy cover, which is lovely when the sun's out, though February and March can be grim if there's been heavy rain - the ground turns to slop. Families with younger kids will find it manageable, though there's nothing here designed specifically for them. This is more about getting your boots dirty and letting children explore at their own pace.

Historically minded visitors might dig into the fact this is old woodland - the structure of it speaks to centuries of management rather than recent planting. There's genuine character to that, even if you can't pin dates on trees.

No visitor facilities to speak of, so bring what you need. It's free to walk, as far as anyone can tell. The Real Campsite sits just up the road at 0.7 miles if you're basing yourself in the area - perfectly positioned for combining woodland walks with overnight camping. Faringdon Grange is another option if you want something slightly more established.

Worth the detour if you're already exploring the Oxfordshire woodland circuit. Don't expect Instagram moments, but do expect the real thing.
