Harpham Plump

You'll find Harpham Plump just outside Driffield, a proper little woodland that punches above its weight for a quick afternoon wander. It's the sort of place locals know about but visitors tend to miss - a dense belt of mature trees with decent paths threading through, good for stretching your legs without needing hiking boots or a packed lunch.

The woodland itself is straightforward: mixed broadleaf and conifers, some decent-sized oaks among them, and enough shade to make it pleasant even on a warm day. The paths are well-trodden enough that you won't get lost, though they're not manicured. It's a proper walk through actual countryside, not a theme-park version of it. You could spend forty minutes to an hour here comfortably, maybe longer if you're the type who stops to look at birds or moss.

Walkers will get the most from this - it's not a destination in itself, but slot it in alongside a park stay at Thorpe Hall Cottages or South Cliff Holiday Park and you've got a solid morning sorted. Families with younger kids might find it a bit limited; there's nowhere to play, no facilities, just trees and paths. History buffs won't find much to chew on either.

It's free to access, which helps. Aim for spring or autumn when the light filters nicely through the canopy. Summer can feel a bit dense and buggy. Skip it in deep winter unless you enjoy wet mud on every surface.
