Hassock's Copse

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Hassock's Copse sits just outside Alresford and delivers exactly what you'd expect from a Hampshire forest - bluebells in spring, decent shade in summer, and plenty of mud underfoot come autumn. The paths wind through mixed woodland with the occasional clearing, nothing dramatic but genuinely peaceful. It's the sort of place where you can blow off an hour without overthinking it.

Walkers will find it worthwhile, particularly those heading out from Alresford town centre. The copse connects reasonably well with the wider footpath network, so you can link it into a longer loop if you're the type who gets restless after forty minutes. Kids will manage it fine provided they're comfortable with tree roots and uneven ground - don't expect play equipment or facilities. It's free to access, which counts in its favour.

The real appeal is timing. Visit in May when the bluebells are out and it transforms from pleasant to genuinely lovely. Winter's fine too if you don't mind the damp. Summer can feel a bit enclosed and buggy.

If you're staying at The Spinney Caravan Park or Hampshire Hills, Hassock's Copse works as a half-day extension rather than a main event. Pair it with a proper walk elsewhere - the surrounding countryside has better views - or use it as a stretching-legs stop between activities. Worth the detour if you're in the area, not worth travelling for specifically.
