Haywood's Field Wildlife Reserve sits just outside Rugeley, a proper slice of working countryside that doesn't make a fuss about itself. Families with older children who actually enjoy watching wildlife rather than racing around playgrounds get more from it than those expecting adventure play. Allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're methodical.

It works well as a quiet morning before heading to bigger attractions, not as a day trip destination on its own. Free access, no facilities, so come prepared for weather. It's the kind of place you either appreciate for what it is or feel slightly disappointed by - there's not much middle ground.
