High Pace Crag

The walk up to High Pace Crag rewards you with proper views across the Lake District fells - assuming you pick a clear day, which isn't guaranteed in Cumbria. It's a straightforward forest walk that takes about 45 minutes to reach the crag itself, through mixed woodland that's decent enough but nothing you'll write home about until you break through the trees.

Once you're at the top, the fell opens up nicely. You get genuine views without the crowds you'd find at Catbells or Helvellyn. The rock formation itself is modest - don't expect dramatic granite cliffs - but it serves as a good vantage point and a natural stopping place for a packed lunch.

It suits walkers after a half-day outing more than serious hikers chasing miles. Families with primary school age kids will manage it fine, though the forest floor can be boggy in wet weather. The nearby A590 makes it accessible if you're based around Ulverston or heading between the coast and the central lakes.

If you're staying at Old Park Wood Caravan Holiday Park, this makes a solid morning walk without straying too far from base. It's the sort of place that slots nicely into a wider Lake District trip rather than being your main event. Worth the detour if you're in the area and the weather's cooperating, but it's not worth timing a trip around.
