High Park

The footpath up to High Park from Kendal is steep but properly rewarding. You're climbing into moorland that sits above the town, and once you've caught your breath at the top, the views back down the Kent Valley are genuinely excellent. It's a nature reserve rather than a manicured attraction, so expect rough grass, heather, and the kind of windswept openness that makes you understand why people bother with Cumbria at all.

Walkers will get the most from this. There's nothing here for passive visitors - no cafe, no information boards worth writing home about, just good terrain and space to move. Families with older kids keen on proper hiking will enjoy it; toddlers and the reluctant will find it a bit of a slog. Allow two hours return if you're not pushing hard, less if you are.

The real draw is that it sits between the honeypots. You can tick it off on a walking day without venturing into the Lake District proper - it's accessible from Kendal itself, which keeps things straightforward.
