Hike to Arthurs Seat

The walk up Arthur's Seat from Kinghorn isn't particularly long, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs by the time you reach the summit. Once you're up there though, the Firth of Forth spreads out below you properly - you can see across to Fife on one side and down towards Edinburgh on the other. On a clear day it's genuinely excellent.

This is a straightforward hill walk rather than a technical climb. Most reasonably fit people will manage it in under an hour each way, though the path can be muddy and a bit rutted in places, so proper footwear matters. The views from the top are the whole point - there's nothing much up there besides a trig point and the satisfaction of having made the effort.

Historically minded types will appreciate that this has been a landmark for centuries, though it's not the famous Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh - don't get them confused. The walk appeals to families with older kids who can handle a proper hill without too much fussing, and to anyone after a good viewpoint without driving halfway across Scotland.

It's free, naturally, and you can turn it into a longer day by combining it with a wander around Kinghorn town centre afterwards. Worth doing, though don't expect anything fancy - it's a genuine working viewpoint, not a tourist attraction with a café attached.
