Holamaise

The rocky outcrop of Holamaise rises abruptly from the Cornish coastline just outside Looe, a distinctive landmark that catches your eye long before you reach it. It's not a manicured tourist attraction with admission fees and gift shops - just a proper geological feature that's worth a detour if you're staying at any of the nearby parks like Tencreek or Killigarth Manor.

What you get here is straightforward: dramatic coastal views and the satisfaction of scrambling over weathered rock formations. The granite sits proud against the sea, offering decent photo opportunities if the light's right, especially on a clear afternoon when you can see along the coast toward Polperro. It's the kind of place where you spend twenty minutes rather than two hours - but it's a good twenty minutes.

Walkers will appreciate the scramble, though it's nothing technical. Families with younger kids might find it a bit fiddly underfoot, and there's no real infrastructure here - no café, no toilets, no benches. Bring water if you're coming from Looe in summer heat. The site works best as a break in a longer coastal walk rather than a destination in itself.

Timing-wise, go at low tide if you want access to the rocks without getting your feet wet. Early morning or late afternoon gives you better light and fewer holiday-makers.
