Hords Covert

Hords Covert is a proper woodland walk just outside Driffield, the kind of place that feels a world away from the market town despite being minutes from it. The forest itself isn't enormous - you're looking at a manageable patch of mixed trees rather than some sprawling estate - but it's exactly what you need if you want to stretch your legs without committing to a full day's hiking.

The main appeal here is straightforward: you get woodland paths, a bit of peace, and genuine countryside without the crowds. It's decent territory for families with younger kids or anyone after a gentle stroll rather than a challenging trek. The walking is easy enough that you won't need fell boots, though proper shoes are sensible after rain.

Allow a couple of hours maximum unless you're the type to sit on a log with a flask for an hour. Most people will have seen what there is to see in forty minutes to an hour. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I can establish, so come prepared - bring water and whatever else you need.

If you're staying at Skipsea Sands Holiday Park, Hords Covert makes a useful morning outing before you head to the coast. It's close enough to slot into a half-day itinerary without eating into your beach time. The forest won't blow your mind, but it's the kind of straightforward, no-nonsense green space that rounds out a proper East Yorkshire break rather than standing as a destination in itself.
