Jubilee Field

The approach to Jubilee Field takes you through proper Warwickshire countryside, rolling fields giving way to something altogether more interesting. This nature reserve sits just outside Daventry and rewards a visit with genuine wetland habitat - the kind of place where you'll actually spot things rather than just walk past scenery.

It's a working reserve rather than a manicured park, which means the paths can be boggy and the vegetation refuses to stay orderly. Waders and waterfowl are the main draw here. Bring binoculars if you're at all serious about birdwatching, though even without them you'll see plenty during migration seasons. The reserve manages its water levels deliberately to create ideal conditions for nesting birds, so spring and early summer are when it truly comes alive.

Families with older children will get on well here - there's proper exploring to be done, but younger kids might find it a bit slow-paced unless they're already keen naturalists. Walkers appreciate the network of trails, though none are particularly strenuous. Allow a couple of hours to do it justice without rushing.

If you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Coleman's Hill is barely half a mile away, or Hill Farm Glamping only a touch further - Jubilee Field makes an excellent morning excursion. It breaks up the park routine without demanding a full day's commitment. The free admission (assuming it remains so) makes it an easy add-on to a wider exploration of Daventry's outdoor offerings. Worth the detour if wildlife interests you; less essential if you're after dramatic scenery.
