Jubilee Plantation

A proper woodland walk through Hampshire's countryside, Jubilee Plantation sits just outside Alresford and delivers exactly what it promises - a good stretch of forest with enough room to lose yourself for an hour or two. The trees are dense enough to make you feel genuinely away from it all, even though you're minutes from a market town. It's the sort of place where you actually notice the quiet.

Walkers will get the most from this. There's no theme park energy here, no visitor centre with gift shop. Just forest paths that meander through the trees. Bring sensible boots if the ground's been wet - it can get boggy in patches. Allow a couple of hours if you're keen, or pop in for 45 minutes if you're touring the area and fancy a leg-stretch between other stops.

Timing-wise, autumn is genuinely lovely, but avoid peak summer unless you're coming early. The shade is decent, mind you, so it's not a washout on hot days. Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after 20 minutes - there's no playground or water feature, just trees. Teenagers who like proper hikes will be fine.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby sites - Beechen Glamping and Woodlands Camping are closest - Jubilee works well as a filler between bigger attractions rather than a headline event. Combine it with a wander around Alresford's high street and you've got a solid afternoon sorted.
