Jubilee Plantation

The Woodland Trust manages this stretch of forest near Market Rasen, and it's the sort of place that rewards a proper wander rather than a quick tick-box visit. You'll find yourself walking through mixed woodland - some of it planted relatively recently, some more established - with the kind of quiet you don't often get in the Midlands. The paths are decent enough, ranging from easy strolls to slightly rougher tracks depending on which route you take.

It's genuinely good for families with older kids who can handle uneven ground without complaining every ten minutes. Younger children might lose interest after an hour unless you make it a treasure hunt situation. Dog walkers absolutely love it here - proper off-lead territory with space to let them run. The woodland itself isn't dramatic or particularly rare, but that's almost the point. There's something refreshing about a forest that doesn't need to sell itself on ancient history or celebrity status.

Walking routes tend to be free, though exact opening hours aren't always publicised - it's the kind of place where you rock up during daylight hours and crack on. Spring and autumn are lovely for the canopy changes, but even in winter when it's grey and damp, it has its own appeal if you're the type who doesn't mind a bit of mud.
