King George's Plantation

Walk into King George's Plantation and you're immediately surrounded by tall conifers and the kind of quiet that makes you forget Norfolk is flat. It's a proper forest - the sort of place where the path gets a bit moody when the light drops between the trees, and the air smells like you'd expect a wood to smell. Real trees, proper woodland floor, the works.

You'll be wandering through managed forest here, not ancient oak woodland. The plantation was planted generations back, and it shows - everything is orderly, the paths are decent, and you won't get properly lost even if you try. It's ideal for walkers who want an afternoon ramble without needing scrambling boots or a map and compass. Families with kids will get a solid hour or two out of it, though there's not much in the way of attractions or viewpoints - just trees and paths. Bring binoculars if you're into birdwatching; the quietness makes spotting more likely.

It's free to access, no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so bring what you need. Best in autumn when the light does something interesting through the branches, though muddy paths are guaranteed after rain.

Peterstone is your nearest village for supplies. If you're staying at Pinewoods Holiday Park just down the road - 2.2 miles away - this is an easy walk or short drive to stretch your legs. Deepdale Camping & Rooms, a few miles further out, would make it a proper day out combined with other walks in the area. Neither glamorous nor pretentious, just solid woodland time.
