Kingswood Common

Kingswood Common is a proper slice of working woodland just outside Shifnal, the sort of place locals know but visitors often miss. It's not a manicured country estate - this is genuine forest with mixed woodland, open spaces, and genuine wildness. You'll find decent walking trails threading through the trees, some muddy after rain, others bone dry depending on which bit you're exploring. The common has that lovely feel of somewhere that's managed for wildlife as much as recreation, so you'll spot various birds and in the right season, you might catch bluebells carpeting the floor. If you're based at Worfe Camping or Oakland Holiday Park - both excellent spots just a few miles away - Kingswood makes a solid morning or afternoon walk without needing to drive far. It works best for families with walkers who don't mind uneven ground and don't expect facilities. There's a real sense of getting away from it all despite being close to Shifnal, which is genuinely refreshing. Allow a couple of hours if you want a proper explore, or pop in for a brisk 45-minute loop if time's tight. It's free to access and open year-round, though winter mud can be heavy going. Not dramatic or showy, but exactly the kind of woodland that makes a park holiday feel less manicured.
