Kinmel Bay Promenade

A proper coastal walk without the crowds you'd get at Llandudno or Prestatyn. Kinmel Bay's promenade stretches along a working beach where you'll spot waders and terns if you're paying attention, especially during migration seasons. The shale and sand mix means it's not a sunbather's paradise, but that's rather the point - it keeps the numbers down.

The walk itself is straightforward. Head east from Rhyl and you'll pick up the promenade easily enough. It's flat, which means families with buggies manage fine, and you can potter along for as little or as long as you fancy. On a clear day the view across to Anglesey and beyond lifts properly. The sea air does what sea air does - blows the cobwebs clean out.

Walkers and birdwatchers get the most from this stretch. Bring binoculars if you're into that sort of thing. A couple of hours is about right for a visit; any longer and you're just repeating the scenery. Winter's actually decent here when the light's low and moody.

If you're based at The Beach Caravan Park or Bron-y-Wendon Holiday Park, this is an easy morning or late afternoon add-on rather than a day in itself. It works best as part of a wider North Wales coast shuffle - pair it with a walk around Prestatyn's own stretches or a poke around Rhyl's seafront if you want something with more facilities.
