Just outside Boston, Kirton Holme Golf Club sits on proper flat Lincolnshire terrain - the kind of landscape where the horizon stretches on forever and you can see weather coming from miles away. It's a straightforward parkland course, nothing fancy, but that's rather the point. The greens are well-maintained and the layout keeps you honest without being punishing. You'll walk it in around four hours, give or take, depending on how often you're fishing balls out of the rough. This is the sort of place where serious golfers come to practise their swing and casual players won't feel out of their depth. Membership exists but day visitors are welcome, though you'd want to ring ahead to check availability and get the green fees sorted. The surrounding countryside is dead flat and rather beautiful in its own way - very East Midlands, very agricultural. Families with keen golfers will find it straightforward to slot into a holiday at Orchard Holiday Park or Appletree Holiday Park, both within walking distance. If you're staying at Big Sky Hideaway Camping and Glamping further out, it's still only twenty minutes' drive. The club doesn't offer much in the way of facilities beyond the essentials, so don't expect a spa or fine dining, but the staff are friendly and it's a proper working golf club rather than a resort. Best visited on a weekday if you can manage it - you'll have a more peaceful round and fewer queues.
