Kit Hill

The old mine stack on top of Kit Hill is visible for miles across Cornwall, a proper landmark that pulls you up there whether you meant to go or not. It's a 333-metre climb from Callington, and the walk itself is straightforward enough - a clear path that gets steeper as you approach the summit but nothing that'll defeat most people with half decent knees.

Once you're up there, you get views that stretch toward Bodmin Moor and across the mining country that built this part of Cornwall. The tin and copper workings have mostly gone back to nature, but the landscape still tells the story if you know where to look. The summit's breezy and exposed - bring a windproof if you're going in autumn or winter.

It's the sort of walk that works for families if your kids are reasonably steady on their feet, and serious walkers can extend it into longer moorland routes. History types will find plenty to think about given the industrial heritage all around you. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip and a proper look at the view.
