Knightswood Common

Knightswood Common is a proper woodland walk just outside Cirencester, the sort of place you stumble across rather than plan for. Ancient beech and oak trees create a cool, quiet atmosphere even on busy weekends - the kind of spot where you genuinely forget there's a town nearby.

It's best suited to walkers who want something genuine rather than manicured. You won't find visitor facilities or marked trails here, which is precisely why it works. The woodland feels managed but wild, with plenty of space to roam without bumping into crowds. Kids will enjoy poking about in the undergrowth and climbing on fallen logs, though it's not a destination on its own - you'll want to combine it with other Cotswold attractions.

The common sits well within reach of Mayfield Park if you're basing yourself for a holiday in the area. It's the sort of morning or late-afternoon diversion that breaks up a day nicely.
