Ladies' Walk Wood

A woodland walk just outside Bideford that locals actually use instead of just talking about. Ladies' Walk Wood is a proper forest trail through Devon-Cornwall border country - nothing flashy, just tall trees, leaf litter underfoot, and the occasional surprise of open sky through the canopy.

The walk itself takes you through mixed woodland where you'll spot bluebells in spring if you time it right. It's flat enough that families with younger kids won't spend the whole time hearing complaints, but interesting enough that teenagers won't be bored within the first ten minutes. If you're after a proper ramble, you can extend it by linking to other paths in the area - there's enough woodland around here to keep you going for hours if you've got the legs for it.

What makes it worth a stop is that it feels genuinely used by people from the area rather than groomed for tourists. No entrance fees, no gift shop, just a decent stretch of forest that does what it says on the tin. You'll want sensible boots - the ground gets boggy after rain - and an hour should cover a reasonable circuit.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Coastal Cabins (barely over a mile away) or Roeys Retreat, this is an obvious morning option before heading into Bideford proper. Fits nicely with a quieter North Devon holiday where you're not hammering attractions but actually getting some fresh air into your lungs.
