Lambswell Wood

A proper woodland walk tucked just outside Burntisland, Lambswell Wood is the sort of place locals know well but visitors often miss. It's not dramatic or showy - just a decent stretch of mixed forest with decent paths and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came to Fife in the first place.

The wood itself is manageable for families with kids who can handle uneven ground. You're looking at a gentle amble through trees rather than anything strenuous, with enough variation to keep walks interesting without wearing anyone out. On a clear day the light filters through nicely. In autumn the colours are genuinely good.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, which suits the place fine. Come prepared - bring waterproofs even when the sky looks reasonable. The paths can be boggy after rain, and there's not much shelter if weather turns. Allow anything from 45 minutes to two hours depending on how thorough you want to be.

It works well as a morning or afternoon detour if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Pettycur Bay, Sandhills, or Kinghorn Harbour are all within easy reach. Pair it with a walk along Burntisland's seafront and you've got a solid day's activity sorted. Nothing fancy, nothing that'll blow your mind, but honest woodland that does exactly what it says on the tin.
