Walking up the grassy slopes feels like stepping back in time - this ancient volcanic plug has watched over the Firth of Forth for millennia. Largo Law rises 290 metres above the surrounding farmland, offering genuinely spectacular views across to Edinburgh and the Pentland Hills on a clear day. The climb takes about 45 minutes from the nearest car park, following well-worn sheep tracks that can get muddy after rain.

Families with older children will manage the ascent fine, though it's probably too much for little ones. The real reward comes at the summit, where you'll find the remains of an Iron Age fort and a proper sense of achievement.
