Lark Hill

The walk up Lark Hill isn't dramatic, but it's proper rewarding on a clear day. You get wide views across the Cotswold Edge from this modest peak near Malmesbury, and on a good afternoon the light catches the valleys in a way that makes the modest climb feel worthwhile. It's the kind of spot where you can see for miles without needing special equipment or a full day's commitment.

Most people will get there and back in under two hours from Malmesbury town centre. Walkers and families with older kids will enjoy it most - there's real countryside atmosphere rather than tourist infrastructure. The ascent isn't punishing, though it's a genuine walk rather than a stroll. Bring a map or download offline directions beforehand, as signposting can be sparse in places.

Free to visit, naturally. The best time is late afternoon when the sun's lower and the views have more depth. Early morning works too if you can shift yourself that early. If you're staying at Tobacconist Farm Campsite or the glamping at Whychurch Farm, both within 4-5 miles, this slots nicely into a day that might include exploring Malmesbury Abbey or rambling further into the Cotswolds. Burton Hill Caravan Park is also close enough to make it an easy morning walk from your base.
