Lavington Copse

Deep woodland walks through beech and oak, with paths that wind past ancient trees and the occasional opening where light floods through the canopy. Lavington Copse sits just outside Stockbridge and gives you proper forest immersion without the tourist crowds you'd find at bigger attractions. The trees here are genuinely impressive - some have been standing for centuries, and in autumn the floor turns gold and brown in a way that makes you understand why people get romantic about woodlands.

It's brilliant for walkers who want a genuine country experience rather than a manicured nature trail. Families with older kids will get a good couple of hours out of it, though toddlers might struggle with uneven ground. The paths are well-trodden but can get muddy even days after rain, so proper boots aren't optional.

No facilities to speak of - this is somewhere you head to for the walk itself, then head back to base for tea. Early morning visits reward you with wildlife activity; weekday afternoons mean fewer walkers.
