Leonard's Wood

Leonard's Wood is a proper woodland walk just outside Knutsford, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's nothing fancy - just trees, paths, and enough shade to escape the sun on a hot day. You'll find yourself among mature woodland with decent-sized specimens and enough variation to keep things interesting for a couple of hours.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's ideal if you're after a gentle amble rather than a serious hike, and families with kids old enough to manage uneven ground will be fine here too. The paths are reasonably clear, though after rain they can get a bit soft underfoot - worth noting if you're pushing a buggy.

There's no entrance fee that we can find, and no formal visitor centre, so it's just a case of turning up. Allow a good hour to ninety minutes if you want to explore properly without rushing. If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Pickmere Leisure is barely a mile away, or Belmont Hall and Greenfields Campsite are within a few minutes' drive - this makes an easy morning or afternoon out. It won't blow your mind, but it's a solid bit of woodland for stretching your legs when you're based in the area. Knutsford itself has enough cafes and pubs to round out a day trip nicely.
