Letham Glen

The woodland walk through Letham Glen feels like stepping back in time - ancient trees tower overhead, the burn runs clear beneath moss-covered stones, and you could easily forget Leven is just across the fields. It's a proper nature reserve rather than a manicured park, which means muddy paths, real birdsong, and the sort of quiet that makes you remember why you came to Fife in the first place.

The glen itself is modest in scale but generous in atmosphere. You're looking at a couple of hours maximum for a full wander, following the burn through mixed woodland where you might spot roe deer if you're lucky and move quietly enough. The paths are straightforward enough for families with school-age kids, though they can get boggy after rain - wellington boots aren't optional in winter.

Historically minded visitors will appreciate that you're walking through landscape that's been shaped over centuries, though there aren't interpretive signs or facilities to spell it out. Walkers after something gentle but genuinely wild will find it rewarding. Younger children might lose interest after an hour unless they're the type to spend ages turning over stones in the burn.

If you're staying at Leven Beach Holiday Park or Letham Feus Lodge - both practically on the doorstep - it's an obvious choice for a morning or late afternoon stretch. Worth the walk from your caravan, though don't expect crowds or facilities. Come for the trees and the silence.
