The Lighthouse Gallery sits in Newlyn, that proper working fishing village where the light still catches the water just right around dusk. It's a converted lighthouse space - not vast, but the setting alone makes it worth a look if you're passing through. You get contemporary art shows rotating through the year, the kind of thing that takes twenty minutes or so to move around, depending on what's on.

The space itself is the real draw. Climbing up into a lighthouse to see paintings or installations feels like an event, even if you're only there briefly. It works best for art-minded types rather than families with restless kids - there's not much interactive stuff, and the narrow stairs mean it's slow going with pushchairs. Photographers will find decent light bouncing off the walls, particularly on overcast days when the gallery's south-facing aspect isn't too harsh.

If you're staying at Roselands Caravan Camping Park just down the coast, it's a fifteen-minute drive into Newlyn, so easily tacked onto an afternoon exploring the harbour and grabbing fish and chips. Check opening hours before you go - galleries in these smaller towns aren't always weekday-friendly. Free entry when it's open, which is genuinely appreciated. Worth squeezing in if contemporary art interests you and the weather's turned a bit rough, but don't plan your whole trip around it.
