Lingley Knoll

The walk up Lingley Knoll takes about twenty minutes from Wallingford, and it's genuinely worth the leg work. This isn't some dramatic peak - it's a modest hill that rises just enough to give proper views across the Thames Valley. You get the town laid out below you, the river winding through, and on a clear day the chalk downs rolling away to the south.

It's the kind of place that works brilliantly for families with older kids or anyone after a quick leg-stretch without committing to a full day's hiking. The summit itself is a bit bare and windswept, but that's exactly why the views aren't blocked. Wallingford locals use it as their evening constitutional, and you'll understand why once you're up there.

If you're camping at Rolling Fields Glamping just down the road, this is an obvious morning outing before breakfast - under an hour round trip. The Ridgeway View Campsite and Bridge Villa are further afield but still within reasonable distance if you want to break up a longer walk.

There's no visitor infrastructure, so bring water and sensible shoes. The path can be muddy after rain. You could combine this with a proper look round Wallingford itself - the castle ruins and the town centre are worth an hour or two. It's not a destination in itself, but as part of a park holiday in the area, it's a cracking way to orient yourself and burn off some energy.
