The Victorian ironwork and manicured lawns at Lingwood Park come as a pleasant surprise if you're staying around Grange-over-Sands. It's a proper Victorian ornamental space - the sort of place where locals walk their dogs on Sunday mornings and families spread out blankets when the weather's decent.

You get mature trees, open grassland, and that slightly faded grandeur that makes 19th-century parks feel lived-in rather than museum-like. There's nothing particularly showy about it, which is rather the point. It's not the sort of destination you'd drive across the county to visit, but if you're based at Willow Tree Holiday Park nearby, it's easily walkable and fills a couple of hours without fuss.

Histories types might appreciate the bones of the place - you can see how it was designed - but this isn't a heritage attraction with plaques and interpretation boards. It's more a chance to breathe, take a bench, and watch the light change through the trees. Children won't be overwhelmed; there's space to run about, but it lacks the novelty that keeps kids entertained for hours.

Go on a weekday morning if you want it quiet. The park has that lovely off-season melancholy in autumn and winter that many visitors skip but which gives it real character. Free to access, and it slots nicely into a wider Grange-over-Sands wander - the town itself is worth an afternoon.
