Little Bull Coppy

A proper woodland walk near Kendal, Little Bull Coppy is the sort of place that rewards a bit of effort without demanding a fell walker's fitness. The forest floor is soft underfoot, the trees close enough to make you forget about the A591 just beyond the boundary, and on a decent day the light filters through in that way that makes you want to linger longer than you planned.

It's best suited to families with children old enough to manage uneven ground, and to anyone after a quiet hour or two away from the honeypot attractions. Kendal itself is busy enough that slipping into woodland feels like a genuine escape. You're looking at ninety minutes to two hours if you want to explore properly without rushing.

Bring proper shoes - after rain it gets boggy in patches - and expect to navigate by instinct rather than signposts; this isn't a manicured forest trail. Spring is lovely when the woodland floor gets that carpet of growth, though autumn light through the branches is harder to beat. Winter's quieter still, if you don't mind mud.

If you're staying at Kendal Camping and Caravanning Club Site, it's a short drive to get here, making it a decent half-day break from camp. The forest itself doesn't take long to explore, so pair it with a walk into Kendal town centre or one of the other woodland patches in the area rather than banking on it being a full day out.
