Little Bulmore Wood

A proper little woodland tucked away near Chepstow that most visitors to Monmouthshire seem to miss entirely. Little Bulmore Wood is exactly what it says - small, intimate forest walks rather than some sprawling nature reserve. You're talking ancient oaks, decent footpaths, and the kind of quiet you don't get in many places these days.

The canopy work here is genuinely lovely, especially if you visit in late spring when the light filters through fresh green leaves. There's enough woodland to keep you occupied for an hour or two, but don't rock up expecting dramatic vistas or waterfall cascades - this is low-key forest rambling country. Walkers with young kids will appreciate the manageable scale, though older teenagers might find it a touch underwhelming unless they're keen on spotting woodland birds or just want somewhere peaceful to clear their heads.

Since it's forest rather than formal attraction, admission appears free and there's no specific opening hours to worry about - typical for Welsh woodland access. Allow an hour minimum if you're taking it at a leisurely pace, longer if you're stopping to identify flora. It works well as a morning jaunt from Penhein Glamping down the road, which has excellent reviews. The site could use better signage from the car park, but that's half the charm really - feels like you've stumbled somewhere proper rather than been shepherded to a branded experience.

Worth a detour if you're already exploring the Chepstow area and fancy a break from major tourist draws.
