Little Buscombe

The walk up to Little Buscombe's summit doesn't take long - maybe 20 minutes from Lynton - but you'll feel like you've properly climbed something. It's a steep pull through woodland that opens out to moorland views across North Devon. The peak itself is modest; there's no dramatic cairn or trig point, just a high point where the trees thin and the horizon spreads out beneath you.

On a clear day you're looking straight across towards Exmoor and down to the coast. It's the kind of walk that rewards effort without demanding full hiking kit. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might grumble at the gradient. There's no café or facilities up top - bring water.

What makes it worthwhile is the walk itself rather than any single destination. The woodland path is proper nice, especially in autumn when the light filters through copper-coloured leaves. It's free, obviously, and works perfectly as a morning outing if you're based at Lynmouth Holiday Retreat or exploring the surrounding area.

Don't expect solitude or raw drama. This isn't Exmoor's wild edge - it's more of a genuine local hill with decent views, the sort of place you come for a proper walk rather than a photograph. If you're in the area for a few days it's worth a visit, but don't build a day around it alone.
