The woodland around Little Duxmore Copse feels properly tucked away from the seaside chaos of Sandown, just a few miles inland where things get quiet and green. It's a small forest - nothing vast or dramatic - but exactly the sort of place you wander into when you want an hour away from the beach rather than a full day's hike.

What you get is a gentle wooded walk with decent canopy cover and the kind of damp woodland floor that's soft underfoot after rain. Trees are mixed - oak, ash, birch - and there's enough understory to feel enclosed without being claustrophobic. The footpaths are worn but manageable, and on a weekday morning you'll likely have the place to yourself.

Families with younger kids will find it low-pressure - there's no risk of anyone getting lost, and the walk feels safe. Older walkers appreciate the shade and the break from exposed coastal paths. It's not a destination in itself, mind you. You won't spend three hours here or come back two days running.

Its real value is as a break from the holiday park routine. If you're staying at White Cliff Bay or Sandhills - both solid options a few miles south - this copse gives you a proper walk without needing to drive to somewhere bigger. Free entry, of course. Allow 45 minutes to an hour, longer if you meander. Go when it's overcast or early morning; midday summer crowds aren't really a factor here, but the shade matters more in heat.
