Littlehampton Battery (destroyed)

Concrete foundations and earthwork remains mark where this World War Two coastal defence once stood guard over Littlehampton's shoreline. Built in the early 1940s as part of Britain's anti-invasion preparations, the battery housed six-inch naval guns trained seaward towards the Channel. Today you'll find scattered concrete blocks, partially buried foundations, and grassy mounds that hint at the site's wartime purpose.

Walking among these weathered remnants, it's easy to imagine the tension of those dark years when invasion seemed imminent. The battery was dismantled after the war, leaving only these archaeological traces for history enthusiasts to piece together. Local volunteers have placed a small information board explaining the site's role in coastal defence.
