Llyn Parc Mawr

A proper working reservoir that's become something of a local walking spot, Llyn Parc Mawr sits quietly in the Anglesey countryside just outside Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. The water stretches for about half a mile, surrounded by grassy banks and the odd cluster of trees that make decent picnic spots on warmer days.

Families with young children will find the flat path around the lake's perimeter manages pushchairs well enough, though it's not paved - just packed earth that can get muddy after rain. Takes about 45 minutes to walk the full circuit at a gentle pace, longer if you're stopping to feed the ducks or let kids explore the water's edge.

Bird watchers do well here, particularly in winter when various waterfowl drop in. Nothing too exotic, but decent numbers of coots, moorhens and the occasional heron if you're patient. The fishing looks reasonable too, though I've no idea about permits.

It's free to visit and accessible year-round, making it a handy option when staying at nearby parks like Coed Helen or Morfa Lodge. Not exactly a destination in itself, but a pleasant enough hour's diversion if you're based in the area and fancy stretching your legs somewhere that won't challenge the less energetic members of the family.
