The paths wind through mature trees, and on a clear day you get genuine glimpses of the surrounding hills. It's the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think.

This works best for walkers who want something low-key rather than a major expedition. An hour or so covers the main routes comfortably, though you can stretch it longer if you're after a proper leg-stretcher. Families with young kids will manage the easier paths fine, though it's not a destination where toddlers will find much to hold their attention beyond "trees and more trees".

You're close enough to base yourself at Eastfield Glamping Farm - just two miles away - for a proper forest break without isolation. If you want more structured activity, Yorkshire Dales Holiday Park at Parklife sits three and a half miles off and gives you access to wider Dales walking. The plantation slots neatly into a day that includes Leyburn itself, which has decent pubs and shops.

Free to access, naturally. Best visited after rain when the woodland smells proper, and avoid school holidays if quiet is what you're after. It's straightforward, unpretentious woodland - not Instagram gold, but exactly what it says on the tin.
