Long Close Copse

A proper woodland walk without the crowds - that's Long Close Copse near Honiton. It's a small, quiet forest where the paths wind through decent-sized trees and the undergrowth is thick enough to feel like you've genuinely left civilisation behind, even though you're only a few minutes from town.

The main draw is the peace. You won't find themed play areas or visitor centres here - just trees, birdsong, and the occasional muddy patch depending on when you visit. The paths are straightforward enough for families with older kids, though it's not a place for buggies. A solid hour gets you through the whole thing without rushing, though you could easily spend longer if you're the type who enjoys sitting on a fallen log with a coffee.

It works particularly well if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots. Hartridge Springs Spa Glamping is just 4.4 miles away, and Dimpsey Shepherd's Hut Glamping even closer at 6 miles - either would make Long Close a natural add-on for a morning walk before breakfast or a late afternoon wander. The copse isn't a destination in itself, mind you. It's the sort of place you'd do alongside a proper explore of Honiton town, or as a break between other plans.

Go when it hasn't rained for a day or two if you can. The paths get a bit sticky otherwise, and there's not much shelter under the canopy.
