Long Wood

Stretching across the countryside just outside Bridlington, this quiet patch of woodland offers proper breathing space away from the seaside crowds. Long Wood isn't going to win any prizes for dramatic scenery, but it's a decent spot for families wanting to tire out restless children or dog walkers seeking muddy paths through mixed deciduous trees.

The walking here is fairly gentle - no challenging climbs or boggy terrain to navigate. Kids will find enough fallen logs to clamber over and clearings to run about in, though don't expect adventure playgrounds or waymarked trails. It's just woodland, plain and simple, which is sometimes exactly what you need.

Being so close to Bridlington means you can easily combine a morning ramble here with an afternoon on the beach. The proximity to several holiday parks like Haven Thornwick Bay Holiday Village and South Shore Holiday Park makes it a handy escape when caravan life gets a bit claustrophobic. Allow an hour or two for a proper wander, longer if you're planning a picnic in one of the clearings. Free parking seems likely given its rural setting, though facilities will be basic at best.
