Getting down to this beach requires a proper steep trudge down clifftop paths near Porth, but the effort pays off handsomely. Lusty Glaze sits in a dramatic cove with golden sand backed by towering slate cliffs that shield it from the worst of Cornwall's winds.

What makes this spot special is the adventure activities on offer during summer months. The beach operates as an activity centre with coasteering, kayaking and rock climbing sessions that take advantage of those imposing cliff faces. It's brilliant for teenagers who've grown tired of bucket-and-spade holidays.

Families with younger children will find plenty to occupy them too. The sand is decent quality and the bay stays relatively sheltered, though you'll want to check tide times as it can disappear at high water. The climb back up those cliff paths with tired little legs and beach gear is no joke, mind you.

Porth Beach sits just up the coast if you want somewhere easier to access, while Newquay's main beaches are a short drive away.
