Marine Gardens

The Marine Gardens sit right on Worthing's seafront, a proper slice of nature conservation sandwiched between the town and the English Channel. It's a working nature reserve where you can actually see what gets done to protect coastal habitats - reed beds, shingle banks, the lot. Walk the paths and you'll spot wading birds, especially in winter and during migration seasons. Spring brings nesting activity if you're keen on that sort of thing.

This isn't a manicured park with benches and ice cream vans. It's rougher round the edges, more about observation than strolling. Birdwatchers will find it absorbing; families with small children might get restless after twenty minutes unless they're genuinely interested in what's living in the water. Allow an hour if you want to do it properly, maybe ninety minutes if the light's good and you've brought binoculars.

You're minutes from Worthing town centre, so it works well as a morning activity before grabbing lunch. Several caravan parks cluster nearby - Onslow and Brook Lane are both about 2.5 miles away, while Eastern Sands and The Barn are a touch further out. Free access, no entrance fee that I'm aware of, and it costs nothing to spend an afternoon watching the birds go about their business.
