Meifod Valley Alpacas

You'll find yourself in gently rolling Powys countryside, surrounded by the kind of Mid Wales landscape that makes you remember why you came here in the first place. Meifod Valley Alpacas is exactly what it sounds like - a working alpaca farm where you can get up close to these oddly endearing animals. They're soft, inquisitive, and frankly quite funny to watch as they potter about their paddocks.

The setup is straightforward. You can usually walk among the alpacas, feed them if they're up for it, and have a proper look at what farm life involves. It's the sort of place where kids genuinely engage rather than glance and move on. Adults tend to find it oddly therapeutic - there's something about being around animals on a small working farm that cuts through the usual noise. Allow an hour or so, maybe longer if you're the lingering type.

Nearest town is Welshpool, which sits about twenty minutes away and gives you somewhere to grab lunch or a decent coffee when you're done. Given the concentration of holiday parks nearby - Oaklands Glamping and Hidden Valley are both within a couple of miles, and if you're at one of the yurt places or Cae Nant further out, it's still an easy drive - this works brilliantly as a half-day activity during a longer Mid Wales stay. Admission details are best confirmed beforehand, but it's the sort of place that usually won't break the bank. Particularly good if your crew includes younger children or anyone who simply wants a slower-paced afternoon.
