Meres Cliff

The walk up to Meres Cliff takes you through proper Cornish landscape - rough grass, wind-bent hawthorns, and that particular quality of light you only get on the southwest peninsula. When you reach the top, the Atlantic opens up below you in a way that makes the climb entirely worthwhile. The cliffs themselves drop sheer to a rocky cove, and on a clear day you can see for miles along the coast.

This is the sort of place walkers will rate highly. You're looking at maybe twenty minutes on foot from the nearest path, nothing strenuous, but enough to feel like you've earned the view. The panorama works best in late afternoon when the light catches the water, though windy days - which are frequent round here - can actually sharpen the whole experience. Families with younger kids might find it a bit of a slog, but teenagers who aren't glued to their phones will get something real from standing at the edge of a proper drop.

There's nothing formal about it - no visitor centre, no facilities. Bring a picnic if you want, though find a spot away from the cliff edge if the wind's up. The whole outing takes maybe ninety minutes from The Secret Garden Glamping or Henry's Camp Site, both within easy striking distance. It's exactly the sort of thing to do on a half day between beach time and breakfast. Free, obviously. Go when the weather's settled rather than on a grey afternoon when you'll see precisely nothing.
