Metlins Rough

Metlins Rough is a proper woodland walk just outside Coventry - the sort of place that locals know about but tourists often miss. It's not dramatic or famous, but it does what it says on the tin: ancient forest with decent paths and enough trees to feel properly away from the city sprawl.

You're looking at a couple of hours maximum if you want to see the whole thing. The woodland floor is thick with leaf matter, the canopy blocks out most of the noise from Coventry, and if you time it right - autumn especially - the light filters through in a way that makes you forget you're barely a few miles from urban civilization. There are paths to follow, though nothing demanding. Family groups with younger kids will find it manageable. Serious hikers might find it a bit on the small side, but it's ideal if you want a woodland breather rather than a full day expedition.

The nearest proper accommodation is Nightingales Rustic Camping, just under four miles away. It's a solid spot for a park holiday if you're keen on Warwickshire - puts you close enough to Coventry for culture and shopping, but far enough out to access proper countryside. Metlins Rough won't take up your whole day, so you'd pair it with other woodland walks or a trip into Coventry itself.

Free to access, though information on facilities is thin on the ground. Best to go prepared with water and decent boots.
