Midfield Copse

You won't find signs or visitor centres at Midfield Copse - it's just a proper woodland walk on the edge of Crediton that locals know about and tourists mostly miss. The trees here are dense enough to feel like you've stepped away from everything, even though you're only minutes from town. Paths wind through beech and oak, and depending on the season you'll get bluebells in spring or that muted gold light filtering through bare branches come November.

It's ideal for a two-hour wander if you're staying at Yeatherridge Farm Caravan Park nearby - close enough that you won't spend half your morning just getting there. Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after forty minutes; there aren't lookout points or dramatic clearings, just good solid woodland. But if you want space to think or a place to let dogs properly roam off-lead, it does the job. Walkers and nature types will appreciate it more than anyone else.

There's no entrance fee that I could find - you just turn up. The ground can be boggy after rain, so proper footwear isn't optional. Go early in the day if you want any peace; it's popular enough that weekends get busy but not so famous you'll be dodging crowds. It pairs well with a Crediton town visit for lunch, or as a break between exploring the surrounding parks and farmland.
