Millennium Walkway

The Millennium Walkway cuts through Macclesfield like a ribbon of civic pride - a paved route that connects the town centre to the canal towpath and beyond. It's genuinely well thought-out, with proper signage and some decent seating spots where you can watch the water or grab a coffee from one of the cafes along the way.

This is a walker's route, not a destination in itself. You're looking at maybe 45 minutes to an hour, depending on pace and stops. The path is flat and accessible, so it works for families with pushchairs or anyone who doesn't fancy a proper hike. The real appeal emerges when you realise how quietly pleasant it is - you escape the town's ring road noise within five minutes and suddenly you're alongside water, old mill buildings, and genuine green space.

Stay at Eastwood End Caravan Park, four miles out, and the Walkway makes a logical morning expedition before you explore Macclesfield properly. The town's got silk mills and a conservation area worth your time, but the Walkway gives you a breather without the need to drive anywhere else.

It's free, it's clean, and there's enough interest in the architecture and waterside to hold attention. Not dramatic, but it's the sort of thing that separates a holiday where you actually walk around from one where you just drive between spots. Well worth an hour.
