Millom Rock Park

The climb up to Millom Rock Park takes about fifteen minutes from the town centre, and it's steep enough to get your heart rate up without being a proper slog. Once you're there, the payoff is genuine - you're standing on what feels like the edge of everything, with the Irish Sea spreading out in front of you and the Lakeland hills rising up behind. Clear days give you views all the way across to the Isle of Man, which is rather brilliant.

It's a working person's viewpoint, to be honest. No gift shop, no visitor centre, just a rocky outcrop with a handful of benches and the wind in your face. Perfect for photographers wanting dramatic coastal light, and walkers doing a loop around Millom will find it a natural stopping point rather than a long detour. Kids can scramble about on the rocks for twenty minutes before getting restless; it's not an all-day sort of place.

If you're basing yourself at Harbour Lights Campsite just down the road, it's absolutely worth an evening stroll up here as the light goes golden. High Haume Glamping, five miles away, makes it an easy morning excursion. The wind can be fierce - bring a proper jacket even when it looks calm from town. Allow half an hour total, including the walk back down.
