Moat Coppice

Moat Coppice is a proper woodland walk just outside Kenilworth - the sort of place locals know about but visitors often miss. It's small, maybe a couple of hundred acres, with decent paths threading through mixed woodland that's thick enough to feel properly forested even when you're only minutes from civilization.

You'll find bluebells in spring if you time it right, and the woodland floor stays relatively dry underfoot thanks to the sandy soil. There are a handful of open glades where light breaks through, which helps break up what could otherwise feel a bit monotonous. It's not dramatic or towering - more of a gentle ramble than a woodland adventure.

Walkers will get the most out of this. It's straightforward enough for families with younger kids, though there's not much to actually do once you've walked around - no playground, no visitor facilities that I'm aware of. Give it an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're in no rush. The paths are well-maintained and fairly easy going.

If you're staying at Gate Farm or Mousley House Farm, both within five miles, it's a logical morning outing before heading somewhere with more going on. Kenilworth itself has the castle and the town centre for proper attractions. Moat Coppice works best as a breather between bigger days out, or if you simply want an uncomplicated woodland walk without the crowds you'd find at somewhere more famous. It's free access and you can turn up whenever - no gates, no entrance fees, no faffing about.
