Mo's Wood

A proper woodland walk just a stone's throw from York, Mo's Wood is one of those local spots that rarely makes the guidebooks but rewards a visit all the same. The forest floor is thick with moss and fallen leaves - especially beautiful in autumn when the whole place turns copper and gold. You're walking through mature deciduous trees, the kind that muffle sound and make you feel properly removed from the city despite being so close.

It's excellent for families with older kids who can manage a decent woodland ramble without needing constant entertainment. Younger children might find it a bit samey after thirty minutes unless they're the type who get absorbed in hunting for woodland creatures and turning over logs. The paths are generally well-trodden, though sections get boggy after rain, so decent boots are wise.
