Mount Blair

The climb up Mount Blair takes roughly two hours from Blairgowrie and rewards you with views across Perthshire that stretch for miles on a clear day. It's not particularly demanding as peaks go - around 1,500 feet of elevation - but the walk itself is properly satisfying, winding through moorland and forest with the landscape gradually opening out as you gain height.

Walkers will get the most from this one. Families with confident hikers aged ten or so upwards will manage fine, though younger kids might find it a bit relentless. The route itself is straightforward enough, though you'll want decent boots and weather-appropriate layers - Scottish hills have a habit of changing their minds mid-walk.

The summit cairn isn't dramatic or heavily trafficked, which is partly why it's worth doing. You're not jostling for space to take the obligatory photo. On a proper day you can see Ben Lomond to the south and across towards the Cairngorms. Even in mist, there's something satisfying about reaching the top of an actual Scottish mountain without the circus that comes with the bigger peaks.

If you're based at somewhere like Glenshee Glamping just down the road, this makes an excellent morning or afternoon excursion. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the top - bring water and a packed lunch. Blairgowrie itself has decent coffee options before or after, which is useful if you're combining this with exploring the wider Perthshire circuit.
