Moyola

Moyola is a proper working landscape rather than a manicured attraction - a substantial inland lake that sits quietly in Mid and East Antrim without the tourist machinery you'd find elsewhere. The water itself is the draw: it's used for water sports, fishing, and genuinely peaceful walks along the shoreline, with decent views across the lough and plenty of birdwatching opportunities if you're into that sort of thing.

The lake works best for people who want to potter about rather than tick boxes. Walkers will find the perimeter manageable without being spectacular. Anglers and water sports enthusiasts get proper value here - it's a working fishing destination with a real local feel. Families with young kids might find it a bit slow unless they're keen on ducks and open water; older children who can handle a decent walk will get more from it.

It's free to access and visit, which is the main thing in its favour. Give yourself two to three hours if you're doing a full loop, though you can easily do thirty minutes if you're just stretching your legs between other activities.

The real benefit is location. Sett on The Lough is barely two miles away, making Moyola a natural addition to a holiday based at one of the local parks. Lough Beg Glamping, four miles further, also sits within easy striking distance. Antrim town itself is just there, so you can pair it with actual attractions. The lake itself won't hold you for a full day, but as part of a broader wander around the area, it's time well spent.
