The British Museum isn't actually in Buckinghamshire - it's in London. But if you're camping near Aylesbury at Orchard View Farm or one of the other sites in the area, you're looking at roughly an hour's drive south to get there, which makes it a viable day trip from your glamping base. Worth knowing before you book.

That said, the actual museum itself is phenomenal. You're walking into one of the world's most significant collections of human history - Egyptian mummies, the Rosetta Stone, Greek sculptures, African masks. The scale is genuinely overwhelming on a first visit. Plan for at least three hours if you're being selective, a full day if you want to do it justice. The main galleries around the Great Court can get rammed, especially school holidays, so go early or late in the afternoon.

It's free admission, which is excellent, though donations are encouraged. Families with older kids (eight plus) will get proper value from it. Younger children can manage an hour or two of targeted galleries before restlessness sets in. Historians and anyone with even passing curiosity about antiquity will lose track of time.

If you're basing yourself at Wingbury Farm Glamping or Hill Farm Camping nearby, a London day out works as a contrast to countryside time - you're not far from the Chilterns for walks either. Combine it with a park visit rather than making it your whole trip. The logistics are straightforward by car, though London parking is predictably painful.
